Set in 1922 on Long Island, this adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel is narrated by Midwesterner Nick Carraway, a would-be writer who has moved in next door to enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby and across the bay from his cousin Daisy Buchanan. During one of Gatsby’s legendary parties, he asks Nick to arrange a meeting with Daisy, who was Gatsby's true love before the war. Nick hesitates, but agrees when he realizes Daisy’s husband Tom is having a tawdry affair with Myrtle, the wife of a local mechanic. Gatsby and Daisy rekindle their lost love while Nick takes up with Daisy’s best friend Jordan Baker, a fascinating, fiercely independent golf star who isn’t all she seems. Despite their efforts to manage these spiraling events, obsession, madness, and tragedy await in the disastrous conclusion of the story.

The exhilarating freedom and spectacular opulence of the Jazz Age is the backdrop for themes that are even more relevant today: the failed American dream, the vast divide between haves and have-nots, and the ensuing devastation when romantic illusion is crushed by gritty reality.
