The film opens on ALEX CASTILLO, a real-estate agent trying to sell a leasing office in Sedona, Arizona. Alex hates his job. It isn’t fulfilling him. One day while waiting on a client to arrive Alex hears gunshots in the desert. The gunshots are accompanied by screams. Alex gets his gun from his car and finds a man who looks like he’s about to execute a woman. Alex convinces the man at gunpoint to walk away. The man does. Alex goes to the woman, and is ready to call the police, but the woman stops him. She says she’s an immigrant and they’ll arrest her right before passing out.
Alex learns that this woman is a South African immigrant named MARYKA who’s immigration lawyer is trying to have her killed. Alex agrees to help Maryka get to Los Angeles where she has kept a hidden stash of money in a PO Box. Pursued by hitmen Alex learns Maryka was exploited by a sex trafficking ring working out of Los Angeles. He begins to suspect Maryka isn’t returning to Los Angeles just for her money- she wants revenge.
The story is told in 4 parts through multiple vantage points. We learn about the hitman, KELLIN, and how he isn’t the simple killer that Alex and Maryka, as well as the audience, assumed. We see his life, his struggle with his father’s medical bills, and hopefully empathize if we don’t agree with his decision to take a job that will pay those bills. In the end the three team up to take down Anthony Delucie and his father Dante’s business that takes advantage of women trying to find a better life in this country. |
