Welcome to The Alamo – the last great American bar. The neighborhood institution in the blue-collar section of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where bar owners Munce and his wife, Carmen, have been serving the regulars for years. The same neighborhood institution where, along with those same regulars, they watched from the roof as the towers of the World Trade Center crumpled to the ground, taking their relatives, friends, and neighbors down with them. But today, an aging clientele, and gentrification of the neighborhood have The Alamo struggling to keep its doors open. Artists and gentrifiers have moved in, and they want to adopt the bar as an entertainment hangout. Fearing it’s their only chance to keep The Alamo’s door open, Munce and Carmen plan to upgrade the bar to appeal to the younger, more upscale crowd. But the Alamo regulars and Bay Ridge locals have no intention of surrendering their bar, let alone their neighborhood, without a fight. Nativism, racism, war, and humor combine to create a theatrically vivid portrait of eight emotionally entrenched people who find themselves on the front lines of change.
